Persona 4 Fan Fiction
1 More Chance!
In early 2009, the videogame “Shin Megami Tensei Persona 4”, by game developer Atlus, stole over 100 hours of my life. It also stole a little piece of my heart.
The game follows mostly-silent protagonist Seta Souji/Narukami Yu, but I identified with high-kicking girl sidekick Satonaka Chie. Chie was a tomboy. She trained hard. She fought monsters to protect her friends. She ate steak like a wolverine. And she bullied the boy she liked because she wasn’t confident enough to just be herself around him, and let herself be open to her tenderer emotions. At least, that was the way I played it.
From 2009 until 2012 or so, the characters of P4 took over my imagination, prompting me to write the massive serial “1 More Chance!”. This story is the centerpiece of my version of events that take place about 5 years after the end of the game (2017-2018). It focuses on Chie and her relationships with her friends and family, but everyone has a role and a subplot, if you look hard enough.
1 More Chance! Warnings
1 More Chance! is out-of-control long – it’s over 1000 pages. I could get that to a more reasonable number with some editing (which the story certainly could use)…but I wrote it as a kind of prose-manga, designed to be consumed in pieces over a long period of time. The characters are also quite sexual. I debated going back and softening some of those scenes, but as with all of my older stories, I decided that it is what it is and who was I to pass judgment on my younger, more indulgent self?
Other P4 stories
1 More Chance! occupies center stage in my P4 universe, but it is not alone. I wrote a few stories focused on some of the other characters. A few hits, a few misses, and a lot in-between. Use the links to check them out while I work on getting 1 More Chance! ready for reading again.

1000 Words : The kanji for her name means 1000 Words, but for Yousuke, even that’s not enough to fully describe Satonaka.
Firebrand : It doesn’t much matter, in the end. End of term, 2012, and Yukiko and Souji on the rooftop of Yasogami High.
I Can’t : They say it so many times, they can almost believe it. Kanji and Rise.
The Unhidden Truth : Rise is a liar. Naoto knows this.
Run : Ai never ran anywhere, until it was too late.

Over on Substack
Just a quick post to let folks know I'm over on Substack now, athttps://bonusparts.substack.com/ The "Writing Accountability Project" is a catalog of my process and progress for my supernatural murder mystery/thriller novel I'm currently working on (2024).
A Prologue, Perhaps?
I'm still working on my occult detective story. A problem I ran into is that the original draft started with the protagonist (Isa) and did not present to the reader a body, as the genre is meant to do. I'm not averse to playing against genre rules in my fanfiction,...
“Things Left Unsaid” (A Transformers fic)
This is a (quite old) Transformers fic I wrote, based on the characters from the Generation 1 cartoon/movie and one of the Transformers Choose Your Own Adventure books from my childhood. I was a hardcore Transformers fangirl back in the 80s, and I *loved* writing...
Prelude to a ghost story
Inspiration For Round 2 of the July 2023 TeamWriter Writing Challenge, we had to write the first 250 words of a story based on a first line from Round 1. I chose to expand on this line: The house on Peachtree Avenue had a history of ghosts and strays. While I...
#TeamWriter Challenge: Round 3 – The Dreaded Synopsis
Round 3 in the July 2023 #TeamWriter Challenge was to take one of the story starts from Round 2 and write a synopsis. I had never done a true story synopsis, so at first I wrote out an entire plot outline for my chosen story start. After I read a few articles and...

#TeamWriter Challenge: 50 First Lines
Recently, Kate Johnston over at the Facebook #TeamWriter group challenged us to write 50 First Lines. Kate recommended setting a 1-hour timer so we don't get too involved in perfectionism. I needed 3 hours to go all the way to fifty, but I did it! Here are my...
A Surprise Turn, Paying It Forward, and a Special Contest
A few weeks ago, I got a lovely surprise. A person I don't know shared that they'd read and enjoyed my novella, "Number Seven and the Life Left Behind." That alone was a nice boost to my ego. Above and beyond that, though, they told me that they'd purchased an...
BonusParts A to Z: G is for Gently
G is for Gently This one's more about a particular inspiration for my writing - Alan Hunter's Inspector George Gently series of novels and the BBC television series based on those novels - than it is for my writing itself. But Gently led me to Hansom, which led me to...
