Persona 4 Fan Fiction
1 More Chance!
In early 2009, the videogame “Shin Megami Tensei Persona 4”, by game developer Atlus, stole over 100 hours of my life. It also stole a little piece of my heart.
The game follows mostly-silent protagonist Seta Souji/Narukami Yu, but I identified with high-kicking girl sidekick Satonaka Chie. Chie was a tomboy. She trained hard. She fought monsters to protect her friends. She ate steak like a wolverine. And she bullied the boy she liked because she wasn’t confident enough to just be herself around him, and let herself be open to her tenderer emotions. At least, that was the way I played it.
From 2009 until 2012 or so, the characters of P4 took over my imagination, prompting me to write the massive serial “1 More Chance!”. This story is the centerpiece of my version of events that take place about 5 years after the end of the game (2017-2018). It focuses on Chie and her relationships with her friends and family, but everyone has a role and a subplot, if you look hard enough.
1 More Chance! Warnings
1 More Chance! is out-of-control long – it’s over 1000 pages. I could get that to a more reasonable number with some editing (which the story certainly could use)…but I wrote it as a kind of prose-manga, designed to be consumed in pieces over a long period of time. The characters are also quite sexual. I debated going back and softening some of those scenes, but as with all of my older stories, I decided that it is what it is and who was I to pass judgment on my younger, more indulgent self?
Other P4 stories
1 More Chance! occupies center stage in my P4 universe, but it is not alone. I wrote a few stories focused on some of the other characters. A few hits, a few misses, and a lot in-between. Use the links to check them out while I work on getting 1 More Chance! ready for reading again.

1000 Words : The kanji for her name means 1000 Words, but for Yousuke, even that’s not enough to fully describe Satonaka.
Firebrand : It doesn’t much matter, in the end. End of term, 2012, and Yukiko and Souji on the rooftop of Yasogami High.
I Can’t : They say it so many times, they can almost believe it. Kanji and Rise.
The Unhidden Truth : Rise is a liar. Naoto knows this.
Run : Ai never ran anywhere, until it was too late.
I’m published!
I've published my thriller novella! A little over one year ago, I started the story of Number Seven when a friend of mine sent me a writing prompt for a contest. That prompt was "Awakenings", and that's what I called this story through its entire first draft. What I...
“Heritage” – a “Finding Mister Wright” holiday short
Once again, I hadn't planned on writing a holiday story. But sometimes a line or scene or emotion gets stuck in my head, and I have to put it down on paper. Scroll to the end to skip straight to my notes, or read my 2018 holiday story, "Heritage", below....
NaNoReWriMo
National Novel Writing Month does not inspire me the way it once did. I've participated in the race to 50,000 words many times over, each time writing a new story that sometimes became something more, and sometimes not. NaNoWriMo is really an exercise in forming...
Little Miss Gogo and the Gang
Just Jho Back in the spring, this mister started to appear on our front porch. Being the tenderhearted folks we are, we began putting out regular bowls of food and water. Since he would eat pretty much anything we put out, we named him after...

Highs, Lows, and In-Between Interest
HLIB, Take 1 Back in 2014, I joined the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) excitement with a sequel of sorts to an earlier tale, From Hell (A Love Story). FH(ALS) was a raunchy space opera in which I tried to build a bigger backstory for Axton, the...
What Number Seven Taught Me
In the last days of December 2017, a friend pointed me toward a writing competition. The theme for the competition was “Awakenings”. The group that posted the competition welcomed all genres, with a great desire for romance and speculative fiction, among others. I’ve...
5 Months, 3 Days, 1 Story
In late December 2017, a friend directed me to The Book Smugglers 'Awakenings' Writing Contest. The idea behind the contest - a speculative fiction short story/novella based on the theme of "awakening" - intrigued me, so I kicked around some possible ideas before one...

Recently, I took part in a flash fiction writing challenge, the #WriteFightGIFClub's #PhotoStoryPrompt, from writer and Twitter user Radina Valova. Challengers are encouraged to use the photo to inspire a flash fiction piece while adhering to some very...
Happy Siblings Day!
April 10 is Siblings Day, a day in many parts of the United States of America used to celebrate the importance of siblings. It's not a federally-recognized holiday, yet, but it's still a nice time to remember and honor the brothers and sisters in our...
