One day, I was listening to the Preston
& Steve Morning Show on WMMR,
a radio station in Philadelphia. On the
show, they mentioned the photography skills
of a young lady in the Philadelphia metro
area named Celeste
Giuliano. She does classic
pinup-style portraits for ordinary
people...like me! The example portraits
of the lovely ladies from the Preston
& Steve Morning Show looked gorgeous,
so I decided to take the plunge and try
it for myself.
I am so glad that I did!
Celeste is an incredibly talented photographer...especially
if she can turn a self-described tomboy
like me into a pinup vixen! I've got to
clarify that I'm not a model in any way,
although I do enjoy being a ham in front
of a camera. I'm also not a size-2 girl
that you see in magazines and on television.
I consider myself a normal size-6. So,
it's not about getting on mag covers with
Celeste - it's all about making the experience
a good one for you!
Celeste works very hard (although she makes
it seem easy) to make non-models like
you and me feel very comfortable about
the entire experience: from picking out
a theme and going through clothes choices,
to the actual day-of happening with poses,
smiles, pucker-ups, and more. She's even
got props to help you get into character!
Following are some stories and prints from
my pinup shoots. If you have any interest
at all in experiencing this great time
for yourself, contact Celeste at her website:

I've always had an interest in nosecone art.
Perhaps because I grew up around it, as my dad
is an old airplane and WWI/WWII buff. But I just
sort of fell in love with the idea of posing as
one of those nosecone hotties!
Celeste had just picked up the black satin shorts
that I'm wearing here, which luckily fit great! (Slippery,
though!) And the teeny-tiny white sweater was the perfect
complement.

This one was a little new for me - a very retro artistic
piece, based on some photography from the 1930s. Originally,
Celeste and I looked at some Flapper art, but we found some
really gorgeous sepia-toned art from the 30s that really
captured this moody feel of the times. We did a couple of
different shots, but I adored this one with the hoop. It was
a little difficult to hold my legs in that position for the
photo...but I think it was worth it!
The only thing I'm wearing here is a couple pieces of fabric -
one opaque and the other lace, both black. This is to create a
starker contrast between the fabric and my own skin, which I
think creates a really beautiful, sultry look, if I do
say so myself. This is my favorite pinup yet...and it just
goes to show that Celeste is a multi-talented lady!

For this pinup, I wanted a fun County Fair
feel. I had seen a Gil
Elvgren pinup portrait of a girl with
an apple in her mouth ("The Winner"),
and I thought that the dress I found fit
in perfectly with that theme.
At my consultation, I picked out the red
polka dot dress because I really liked
the way it hangs from the shoulders. I
originally chose some red shoes, but we
ended up liking the white ones I'm wearing
in the final picture better. The nice
cleavage effect was accomplished with
a behind-the-neck-strap push-up bra.

I loved my pinup session with Celeste so
much, that I had to get another print!
Since we had spent so much time trying
to make the actual apple bobbing work,
I had to pick up an additional print,
this time one with an apple in my mouth.
:-)
It's always difficult to choose just one
photo to take from a half-day shoot, as
this proves here.

For this pinup, I wanted to do a nautical
theme. I'm going to be in Providence,
RI, this summer, and I wanted a picture
that captures a little bit of that surprised-sailor
look.
I picked out this blue dress because I
loved the way that it flatters the curves
I've managed to get (through several months
of watching what I ate and keeping to
an exercise regimen). I think that the
red combo of bra, belt, garter, and shoes
really pop in this picture!

Here's a little bit of an "Oops!"
moment with the steering wheel. ;-)
This originally felt a little bit too sexy
for my first choice...but the more that
I looked at this one, I had to pick it
up. I really like the classic cheesecake
pinup face here; it's a great example
of the different types of looks that Celeste
can make work for you!
