National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo):

"What is NaNoWriMo?" I hear you asking. Well, straight from the official National Novel Writing Month website:

What: Writing one 50,000-word novel from scratch in a month's time.

Who: You! We can't do this unless we have some other people trying it as well. Let's write laughably awful yet lengthy prose together.

Why: The reasons are endless! To actively participate in one of our era's most enchanting art forms! To write without having to obsess over quality. To be able to make obscure references to passages from our novels at parties. To be able to mock real novelists who dawdle on and on, taking far longer than 30 days to produce their work.

When: Sign-ups begin October 1. Writing begins November 1. To be added to the official list of winners, you must reach the 50,000-word mark by November 30 at midnight. Once your novel has been verified by our web-based team of robotic word counters, the partying begins.

I have listed below my NaNoWriMo projects, since I joined the effort in 2005. Projects in which I reached the 50,000-word goal are indicated with a "WINNER" identification. Of course, all I win is the satisfaction of completing the goal to write 50,000 words in 30 days...but that is no small feat!

If you would like to participate in this year's NaNoWriMo, or if you just want to learn more about the project, here's that website again:

UPDATE: I've removed the files for the time being. Watch this site for updates.

Kuri-chan's Family

2005 entry - WINNER!

A story about a family in turn-of-the-century rural Japan. A little kitten (Kuri-chan) enters the lives of the four Hayashida children, and we see through the eyes of Kuri-chan the changes wrought within this family over the years.

The Daughters of Krull

2006 entry - WINNER!

This story was updated October 2007, fixing some typos and changing a few minor things in the story.

A novella-length fanfiction based on the 1983 sci-fantasy cheesefest known as Krull. Three of the supporting characters from the movie (Torquil, Oswyn, and Titch) journey to a far-off kingdom in search of a mystical artifact. Along the way, they run into some very special women: the daughters of Krull, as it were.

Sixes and Sevens

2007 entry - WINNER!

This story is still "under construction."

Set in London, circa 1996-1998. White Irish Catholic boy Peter Gerighty meets Black British Protestant girl Alanna York, and naturally the two can't resist each other.
